These are cruise vacation tips that I use to save money and still have a fantastic time on my cruise vacations.

Bottled water gets expensive. You should look into purchasing a reusable bottle that you can fill up for your time on the ship and during excursions. I filled my water bottle up before we head out to explore the city and we didn’t have to worry about buying bottled water everywhere we went.

Every night you will be given an itinerary of the next city you are going to. There will be prizes and drawings offered at the shops at your next port of call. Visit those shops and you can expect cute little trinkets that you can take back as your souvenirs at no extra cost! They just want you to step into their shops. I had lovely jewelry and trinkets to bring back as gifts and it didn’t cost me single penny.

Attend the art auctions on the ship. At the auctions, you have no obligation to make any purchases. You have the opportunity to sit and view art and get a little history of the painting and artist while sipping champagne. Champagne is complimentary offered at all art auctions. You will also be given a free piece art upon exiting the auction program. Sometimes it’s worth it, I got a beautiful picture of the Caribbean when I sat through one of the auctions.

If you attend the activities and raffles throughout the trips you can win some awesome prizes. There was a contest on my most recent cruise. You had to guess which piece of jewelry was a fake piece. If you guessed correctly you were entered into the raffle and the winner was given a prize worth $200 of Amber. I guessed right, however I didn’t win the contest. It was fun, nonetheless.

With these little tips you’ll be able to have some extra fun without extra dollars. You’re already getting tons on your vacation but these tips will make it seem like you’re getting so much more!

After the cleaning, waxing and bottom painting your boat or yacht…it’s great to have that first launch. Whether by travel lift at a marina or by your boat trailer from home. I don’t know if the excitement is the accomplishment of all the work done to get to this point, or just to feel afloat on the water again! Maybe it is a little of both…but it is exciting!

As you know the work is not quite finished yet. Bilges in your Powerboat or Sailboat have to be checked when launched, bilge pumps must be checked for proper operation, and of course the engine has to be started. I crank the engine over without having it start so all the oil can lubricate the engine before I actually start it. This way the internal parts are not metal to metal for the first few seconds running…that’s very bad!

Once started, I check all the hose connections for leakage and hose clamp tightness…at the same time, I’m looking for any worn areas on the hose you get from rubbing on something. When the engine gets to operating temperature, I do another check on the hoses. At higher temperatures and pressure, you may see a hose expand too much, or even have a small (or large) bubble on it. This needs to be changed. Any telltale rust from engine parts, let’s you know if something is loose. Movement or some water weepage leaves rust or marks letting you know attention is needed.

It is so good to hear the engine again knowing you can cruise out and about going to coves and harbors, plus fishing, yes.

Check to see that all your marine extinguishers are full and not out of date…also shake them a bunch to loosen the powder within from that entire time sitting. Your boating flare kit is important too. Make sure it is not out of date also and all is in order. Lifejackets should be in good order and enough for everyone onboard. A medical kit should carry an assortment of band-aids, bandages, cut ointment, aspirin, and other products to keep you and your guests safe…And don’t forget that suntan lotion!

The first time you get to your slip or anchorage and turn on that stereo and the barbecue.. Well, it’s like heaven… and Why Knot!

Most of us get but one vacation a year. Spending those precious seven to 10 days wisely is a must when the memories sustain us throughout the remainder of the year. A cruise vacation is an exciting time whether you are traveling alone, with a partner or with children. There are a couple of tips you should keep in mind when planning the trip to ensure that you get the most bang for your buck-whether it’s time or money.

Most cruise ships are like small cities at sea. Amenities can include swimming pools, shows, gambling, spas, restaurants, recreational activities such as rock climbing and skeet shooting and of course the ever popular shore trips. Before making your plans, it is best to answer several questions. For instance, who’s going on this cruise? Most cruise lines welcome all age groups but you’ll find that some are better at dealing with children while others have more activities for seniors.

And of course, there is the ever present question of “How much do you want to spend?” In the cruise industry they are minimums involved but definitely no maximums. Before planning out your perfect cruise take a good look at your budget and the number of people you’re planning to take with you. The amount of money you’ll need to budget will be tied up with how long you’ll be on board ship. A two day cruise will definitely be less expensive than a seven-day cruise.

Just like with any other vacation destination, there will be a peak season and an off-peak season. The ship and the amenities will be the same but the price will be significantly less if you take your cruise in the off-peak season. Your destination will also be a factor to consider when you budget your cruise. Extracurricular activities available on an Alaskan cruise will be different than those available on a cruise through the Bahamas.

Your budget will also be impacted by the type of cabin you either want or need on the cruise ship. Families traveling with young children will find there are several companies who cater to young children on board both in their day care and child activities as well as the cabins available.

Talk to your friends and family who have taken cruises. You’ll find that cruise lines develop a reputation for delivering specific types of vacations. For years Carnival Cruise Ships have been known to deliver weeklong parties on board ship while Caribbean Cruise lines caterer more to couples or families with older children.

Each of the different cruise lines will also offer different packages. The packages will include offerings for an entire family or for singles. Different packages will also allow family members or the individuals to access different amenities on the ship. This will also impact your budget.

Also consider your port of departure. Since 9/11 the travel industry has emphasized cruising from home ports which means facts many more cruises now depart from New Jersey, Texas or Washington and not exclusively from Florida. Leaving from a port that’s closer to your home will significantly decrease your travel expenses to get to the boat.

When putting together your budget for your cruise, remember some of the hidden costs. Sometimes cruise ships will offer packages that are all inclusive while others will give you the opportunity to choose different shore excursions. In any case you will pay extra for alcohol, gambling, shopping, laundry, tips and fuel surcharges. Since the cost of oil drastically increased in 2007 and 2008 most of the mainstream cruise lines levied a fuel surcharge on cruise trips. As the barrel of oil drops some lines have removed that charge while others have maintained it. In either case there will be hidden costs to cruising which must be planned into your budget.

Taking a cruise either alone or with your family is an excellent way of making memories that will last for years to come. You will be placed into a social situation with individuals from around the country who all meets to enjoy their vacation together. It has become a wonderful way for people to meets others, do business together, network or attend conferences. When you can budget your vacation dollars to include a cruise, it is something to experience.

If you want to experience the good weather, great food and rich culture of Europe, then why don’t you try to sail on a Mediterranean cruise? Mediterranean cruises are cruise trips that will take you along the coastal cities and tourist spots in Europe. The focal point of all Mediterranean cruises is Italy which also separates the routes taken by the two types of cruises in the Mediterranean, Western and Eastern.

Western Mediterranean cruises take passengers to spots where they could enjoy the finest architecture and art of the elegant cities in the world. The common points of departure and return of Western Mediterranean cruises are either Rome or Barcelona. There are also other Italian ports visited by a cruising vessel including Sicily; Capri and Pompeii in Naples; Pisa and Florence in Tuscany. In France the Mediterranean cruise may stop at Monte Carlo in Monaco, Cannes and Nice. While in Spain, the cruise ship may stop at ports of Malaga and Balearic Islands.

The Eastern Mediterranean Cruises will take you to the beaches and shorelines where you can relax and enjoy while basking under the sun. Athens, Rome and Venice are popular ports of calls by Eastern Mediterranean Cruises. Possible itineraries are Dubrovnik in Croatia, Bari in Italy, Katakalon in Greece, Crete and Rhodes.

These cruises are offered all year round but peak season may be from May to October, which is the summer season. Prices of cruises during these months are also higher. If you want a cheaper ride with fewer passengers, then you may cruise during the winter period.

In booking for a cruise, you may consider the length of days or time which will be covered by the cruise. At first you may think that five days of sailing may already be enough, but actually when you are already amidst the fun and exciting cruise experience in the Mediterranean, you may realize that 5 days are not enough. Majority of Mediterranean cruises last from 7-14 days. If you want to rest first before and after boarding the ship, choose to book with cruises offering hotel packages near the ports.

If you have booked in a luxury cruise ship, expect high quality service from the crew and staff of the ship. There should be stylish furnishings, large-spaced cabins and a lot more top-notch products and services. With an upmarket cruise lines, the size of the ship is smaller yet offers a more intimate interaction among passengers of the ship. Products and services too are of good quality but not as much as with luxury lines.

Mid-range cruise offers lower travel fares, has flashy decors, and has satisfactory foods and services on pre-assigned dining schedules and seating. There is also Budget cruises offering basic accommodations. Its public facilities are substandard, with foods and services that are run of the mill.

There are also specialty cruises on the Mediterranean such as Adventure cruise lines that focuses on providing nature and culture experience to passengers and Sailing cruise lines offering unforgettable sailing time.

Several years ago we took our first cruise and had a wonderful time. We’re ready to take another one and I’m finding that the process is just as time consuming as it was then. Here are the steps you should consider as you prepare to leave for your cruising adventure.

1. Consider where you want to go. Are you interested in tropical, European or colder climates? The time of year you go will partially determine that. The tropics in summer are almost too hot plus you deal with hurricane season.

2. Consider which port to leave from. If you’re like me then getting to the port is a real issue. We live in the middle of the country so we’re not close to anything which means long drives or annoying and expensive flights. If you don’t care about which port then you may base your decision according to the cheapest plane tickets.

3. Consider which stateroom you want, and can afford. I highly recommend balcony rooms, they’re an awesome luxury but also rather expensive. You can also book the cheapest room they have and hope for an upgrade. This is a common tactic of seasoned cruisers who don’t care as much about their room, especially if they won’t be in it long anyway.

4. Plan for $500 or more in extra costs. There are additional fees for specialty restaurants on board, trinkets and pictures to buy, things to do and buy in port and a host of odds and ends. Their entire purpose is to get you to spend even more. It sounds bad, but as long as you’re prepared for this and plan ahead with ways to save or not spend that money you’ll be fine.

Overall I highly recommend cruising and hope you’ll try one soon. I can’t wait to go on my next one, and planning is a big part of the fun!

The first world cruise took place in 1922 when Cunard Lines’ Laconia circumnavigated the world. Since then cruising around the world has become an option for travel and holiday vacations especially for the seniors.

Seniors and even the younger population still dig round the world cruises , as long their budget and time permits them to. Most cruise companies conduct world trips for twice a year starting in January. However, there are some cruise lines that schedule their world voyages to begin as early as November or December and there are those that start as late as February or March.

For 2011, these are the cruise lines that sailed or will about to sail for their around the world cruise:

* Crystal Cruises
Crystal Cruises will begin their cruise on January 17, 2011 and will end on May 8, 2011. Crystal Serenity will sail for 110 days and will visit ports of call from Los Angeles to New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Dubai, South Africa to London.
Prices range from $54,000 to $280,000 per person based on double occupancy. Guests had the option to go on segment fares with costs beginning at $6,500.

* Cunard Lines
For 103 nights, guests can experience world voyage aboard three different Queens. Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria will both depart on January 5, 2011 from Southampton to New York. From there Queen Victoria passengers can join those in Queen Elizabeth for a journey going to Sydney. In Sydney, guests will join Queen Mary 2 for a trip going back to New York on April 19, 2011.
Full trips cost from 10,000 to 119,500 pounds sterling per person on double occupancy.

* Costa Cruises
Costa Deliziosa will sail for 100 days starting on December 28, 2011 to April 6, 2012. It will sail from Italy to Los Angeles, then to Singapore and back to Italy. Full world trip will cost around €10,000. Segment trips are also available but the cost is not yet available.

* Holland America
Amsterdam will leave Fort Lauderdale on January 5, 2011 and will visit New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Greece. It will be back on April 26, 2011, totaling to 110 nights of cruising.
Full trips cost between $17,000 and $62,500 per person based on double occupancy. Segment trips will cost around $2,500 per person.

* Cruise West
Just like its round the world cruise this 2010, the Spirit of the Oceanus will set to sail on February 22, 2011 to January 24, 2012 for a total of 335 days of circumnavigating to world.
Its itineraries include Singapore, Chennai, Mumbai, Muscat, Alexandria, Istanbul, Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, London, Edinburgh, Reykjavik, Halifax, Palm Beach, Panama City, Lima, Easter Island, Papeete, Lautoka, Cairns, Bali, Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong.

However, this nearly year-long cruise will cost you around $224,000 per person on double occupancy. Segment fares are available starting at $6,500 per person.

When it comes to any romantic vacation, partying with college students is probably the last thing on your mind, right? Well look at planning your honeymoon cruise just like you would any other location. Just because it’s a cruise doesn’t mean it will be blissfully romantic. Too many times, I see newlyweds wishing they had picked a different cruise for their honeymoon. Please, don’t let this be you? All you need is some careful forethought and research.

Things to consider. Unfortunately, most of us need to consider a budget when planning any vacation… a honeymoon is no different. Thinking about money while on your honeymoon does not set the mood for romance, which makes cruising a very attractive honeymoon option. It’s more of an all inclusive type of vacation without unexpected costs of food, taxi’s and entertainment. Variety is another good reason to pick a cruise for your honeymoon! To visit the different locations you do on a cruise would cost twice as much any other way. Would you rather say you went to Venice for your honeymoon, or Venice, Rome and the Greek Islands. Or instead of St Thomas, you could say St Thomas, St Maarten, St Lucia and Antigua.

Another point to consider when planning your honeymoon cruise is the time of year you want to go. For most of you, this is easy. Directly after your wedding of course. Now I’m not saying to plan your wedding date around your honeymoon (although probably not a bad idea), however at least consider the following:

Spring break (certain cruises are popular for spring breakers)

Hurricane or typhoon season (depending on the location)

And weather seasons (can impact your flights to and from the cruise)

I’ve seen countless honeymooners miss their cruise because they were stuck in Chicago or Frankfurt airport due to weather delays. Therefore, factor in delays when planning your flights. What ever you do, fly in a night or two before your cruise date and stay at a hotel, friends or relatives. Having this extra time up your sleeve will relieve a lot of stress during flight delays and ensure you make your cruise on time.

The popularity of Princess Cruise Lines was highlighted when two of its ships, Island Princess and the Pacific Princess, were featured in a 1970s television program ‘The Love Boat’. Perhaps it would not be chosen to be a part a well-known TV series if it were just a middle of the road cruise lines. As a matter of fact, the quality of services and accommodation aboard the Princess Cruise ships are truly exceptional.

There are a lot of balcony state rooms on-board where you can experience the comfort and excitement of cruising. Every state room on the Princess cruise ships are equipped with a television, refrigerator, bathroom with shower, a hair dryer, a private or safety box, a big closet and of course an electrical outlet with volt-amp reading of 110V. Basic amenities like bath and beauty items are all provided in the staterooms. These are just the basics as you can also add extra features to your standard amenities. You can request for fresh fruits or cloth bathrobes. Aside from the balcony state rooms, Princess Cruise ships also have Interior Double state rooms. At such great value for money, passengers are supplied with basic amenities in a sufficient amount of space. There are two twin beds in the interior state room which can be combined to form a queen size bed if you so choose.

The Ocean View state rooms of Princess Cruise lines provide passengers with an amazing view that adds to the perfect cruising ambiance. There are two twin beds in this roomy space, converted to queen size bed if the passenger prefers. Basic amenities and some extra stuff like bathrobes and bed turn down are provided. The Ocean View Deluxe staterooms are ideally for passengers who prefer some more space. The additional space will provide a better view of the ocean. Same basic amenities are given to occupants of these state rooms. The ocean view Double state rooms with balcony provide the occupants with a personal balcony complete with useful patio furniture for lounging in. As usual, basic amenities come with the state room occupancy with twin size beds, television, fridge, etc.

The mini suite plus a balcony is one of the cruise ship accommodations where the passengers are provided with a private balcony for where to enjoy the breathtaking ocean scenery. The interior of the room is spacious and is supplied with all the basic amenities. In addition, the mini suite has extra luxuries for passengers like a separate sitting space or area, a glass of champagne for welcoming the passenger, a sofa bed, lavish pillows and mattresses, another television set, a desk, bath tub and shower head for massaging.

There is also a family suite which can accommodate up to 8 people. The family suite is basically two state rooms interconnected by the living room. Basic amenities are provided. The suite with balcony is spacious and luxurious. There are balcony furniture pieces, mini bar, walk-in closet, use of thermal suite, with laundry and cleaning services and internet use. The Grand suite with balcony is the most luxurious accommodation room of all. All basic and deluxe services are provided to occupants of this room plus a corner tub fixed with whirlpool water jets.

Cruise lines have their own distinct personalities and ships that reflect them, but there are some definite trends that are spreading across the fleets within the cruise industry.

More homeport cruising

Being able to drive to a cruise offers great convenience, not to mention tremendous cost savings by not having to buy airline tickets. All total, there are some 30 close-to-home departures in the United States and Canada. With so many ships in these close-in markets, in 2010 the competition for your cruise dollar will be fierce.

Bigger cruise ships

Cruise lines have gotten the message from travelers and they are delivering more for 2010 – more space, more options, and more fun on the largest cruise ships ever to hit the high seas. Larger ships mean a wider variety of features and amenities from which to choose.

Cruise ship makeovers

The refurbishment of the older ships makes sense for cruise lines, since most aren’t investing huge sums of money to build newer vessels. By “remodeling” what they already own they can add all of the features of the new ‘mega-builds’, which many cruisers appreciate. Older ships are emerging from their new makeovers with new balconies, improved pool areas, updated children and teen areas, more dining venues, and larger spa facilities.

Greener cruise ships

Cruise lines are taking advantage of the latest environmental technology to reduce their carbon footprint. A number of lines have launched initiatives including advanced wastewater purification, shore power, LED lighting, solar power and products made from recycled materials.

More adults-only areas

A number of cruise lines are increasingly catering to passengers seeking al fresco tranquility with the introduction of quiet, adults-only areas on their ships. These areas are usually in quieter parts of the ship and offer relaxation with abundant plush loungers and access to spa treatments, Jacuzzis and bar service.

More enrichment

Cruise lines continue to offer more and more sophisticated programming. Many cruise lines offer informative shipboard talks by famous lecturers on a variety of topics. Additionally, a number of premium and luxury cruise lines also invite arts and culture specialists to lead educational programs. Lectures aside, there are abundant enrichment offerings onboard and the list of options keeps getting bigger. Cruise travelers can take classes in languages, cooking, Web design, advanced digital photography, art history, maritime history, calligraphy, even pottery. There are even active enrichment programs like dance classes and theater.

More theme cruises

Are you a baseball fanatic, into politics, crazy about rock or jazz music? Believe it or not, you can indulge these passions – and a host of others – on a cruise vacation. Theme cruises are growing in popularity as they provide an entertaining and enriching venue for guests sharing the same interests. Best of all, the shared exuberance fosters an easy spirit of camaraderie, making for a great cruise vacation and sometimes lifelong friendships.

More wellness options

Cruise lines are chasing the fitness trend and have incorporated more comprehensive fitness options into their shipboard offerings, including larger pools, and gyms with state-of-the-art equipment that offer popular workout programs like aerobics, Pilates, circuit training and yoga.

Of course all the activities are balanced by the total relaxation guests find in modern shipboard spas. New indulgences include such treatments as an bamboo massage, Thai poultice massage, exotic coconut rub, body wraps, and acupuncture, to name a few. These are just some of the many therapeutic options available should you wish to turn your cruise vacation into a complete health makeover at sea.

More epicurean delights

While the typical cruise ship remains a vessel of culinary indulgence fueled by 24/7 buffets, pizza stands, and ice cream parlors around every corner, many cruise lines have added more gourmet fare for the more sophisticated palate. Most lines offer alternative dining venues where, for an additional fee, guests can indulge in premium fare with many of the menus designed by famous chefs.

With all the new ships, new onboard amenities, educational, health, exercise, and epicurean offerings it’s clear that cruise lines are working hard to make the cruise vacation experience the best it can be. And, that will surely make guests want to come back for more.
